Karim Benzema, who is already
embroiled in a sex-tape blackmail scandal, has found himself caught up
in another fishy affair involving a company that he owned shares in.
A legal source has confirmed a story broken in French newspaper
Libération stating that Benzema had testified a few months ago as part
of an investigation launched in September into a money-laundering ring.
"At this stage, it is not envisaged that Benzema will be charged", the source added.
The probe centres on the circumstances surrounding the purchase and
subsequent sale at a large loss of a business by BH Event's, a company
of which the Real Madrid attacker is the main shareholder.
Libération claim that Benzema's partner in the company had total
control over its operations, but that the footballer had "stumped up 2.5
million euros in guarantees" in the above-mentioned deal.
Investigators suspect that these dealings could have been a front to
launder money, part of which is believed to have come from drug
trafficking.
