Europa LeagueAthletic vs Sevilla, another all-Spanish tie |
The vagaries of fate conspired to
place Jürgen Klopp at the centre stage of the Europa League draw. The
popular German coach, now in charge of Liverpool, will be reunited with
his old club Borussia Dortmund in the most intriguing of the
quarter-final ties.
Klopp will have his work cut out both to get the better of his
in-form former employers and to block out the emotion in what is sure to
be a rousing atmosphere at the Signal Iduna Park, where the crowd will
give a hero's welcome to the man who guided Dortmund back into the elite
both domestically and continentally.
Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla, meanwhile, will do battle in what, on
paper, looks set to be an engrossing, evenly matched all-Spanish tie.
The double defending champions are sure to face a stern test from
Ernesto Valverde's side, who knocked out Valencia in the round of 16.
Villarreal, for their part, will be favourites up against Sparta
Prague, having overcome two strong opponents in Napoli and Bayer
Leverkusen in the last two rounds.
The final tie pits Portuguese side Braga against Ukrainians Shakhtar Donetsk.
