Lady Gaga and Sam Smith will go head-to-head for Best Original Song at the 88th Academy Awards on February 28.
Head-to-head: Lady Gaga and Sam Smith are going for gold once more at the 88th Academy Awards next month - although this time they are head-to-head in the Best Original Song category, as announced on Thursday morning in Los Angeles

'Mother Monster', 29, - real name Stefani Germanotta - and the British singer, 23, both received their first ever Oscar nominations when this year's contenders were announced in Los Angeles on Thursday morning.

The musical duo are now set to battle it out with their tracks Til It Happens To You and Writing's On The Wall, from movies The Hunting Ground and Spectre respectively.

It's not often we see Lady Gaga wearing something we'd love to have hanging in our own wardrobes, but last night at the Golden Globes the pop star nailed it and we're seeing her in a whole new light.
She was elegant and oozed old school Hollywood glamour in a fabulous off shoulder gown by Atelier Versace. It's a classic look and one that's easier to copy in the real world than some of the other showstopping numbers we saw on the red carpet.
We love the structured tailoring of this dress and the slinky train. It must have been quite difficult to walk in but totally worth it for the dramatic effect. Atelier Versace is the couture end of the luxury fashion house so will require an appointment with the designer to recreate this exact look, so why not just shop our edit below instead?

We've found shoulder baring dresses by Balenciaga, Jessica Wright and Flynn Skye that'll do the trick. Style with a slick of scarlet lipstick to complete the bombshell look.
Overjoyed: The astounded singer took to Twitter just moments after the announcement, to share the news with her 54.5M followers, posting an image of a typewriter with lettering reading: 'Thank you to THE ACADEMY for recognizing the movement of people who have come together for this film and song in the name of sexual assault.
