THE EU has sparked outrage after trying to take
credit for Britain's incredible haul of Olympic medals.
It has placed itself at the top of an online Rio
2016 medal table after combining the 28 members of the bloc into a federal
superstate.
Team GB, which is ranked second in the actual
table with 50 medals including 19 golds, does not appear on the EU's table at
all.
The table, created for the EU, proudly boasts
how the EU has won a staggering 223 medals at this year's Games – including 78
golds – compared to the United States' 84 and China's 51.
MedalTracker.eu was produced by the
Berlin-based agency Euro Informationen, which works for both the European
Commission and European Parliament.
Ukip MEP and equestrian Jane Collins hit out at
Brussels for erasing the achievements of Britain's sporting heroes, including
Laura Trott and Mo Farah.
She told Express.co.uk: "Where was the EU
in the early hours of the morning when our amazing athletes were training?
"It was UK National Lottery money which
helped them develop into the world class athletes who have made this country
proud.
"I know from my time with the equestrian
world it has very little time for the EU.
"The only way the EU would win in a race
is if there was a big pot of taxpayers' cash at the finish line."
The website admits the table, which was also
produced for the 2012 Games in London, is not "entirely fair" on
countries outside the EU.
