Copa del Rey Final Catalan club turn to High Court |
Barcelona will appeal to the High Court against a ban the Madrid government has enforced, depriving Catalan fans of bringing pro-indepedence Catalan flags, known as 'Esteladas', to Sunday's Copa Del Rey final.
The flag represents support for the region's independence from Spain,
and Barcelona feel the move is a violation of the fundamental right to freedom of expression.
The final against Sevilla is to be played at Atletico Madrid's
Estadio Vicente Calderon, and according to Catalunya Radio, club
Vice-president Carles Villarubi has announced that having consulted with
the legal advisors at the club, Barcelona are taking the case to the
High Court.
The Catalan side have confirmed the decision is not yet final, and they expect to have a clear answer in the near future.
Should the Blaugrana defeat newly crowned Europa League winners
Sevilla on Sunday, they will claim their fourth trophy of the season
having already won La Liga, the FIFA Club World Cup and the European
Super Cup.
