Breaking: FIFA Fires Secretary General, Jerome Valcke

World football’s governing body FIFA today sacked its secretary general Jerome Valcke after being previously banned from football activities. He was alleged to have been involved in a scheme to profit from the sale of World Cup tickets.

“The duties of the secretary general will continue to be assumed by the acting secretary general, Dr Markus Kattner,” a FIFA statement reads in part.
Valcke who joined FIFA in 2003 as director of marketing and TV was also accused of $10m (£6.8m) bribe which was said to have been paid to Jack Warner, the former head of the North and Central America football governing body (CONCACAF).
FIFA’s ethics committee had on 7 January resolved open “formal adjudicatory proceedings” against Valcke after studying a report submitted by its investigatory chamber.
