Beyonce Poses With ‘Proud Dad’ Mathew Knowles After ‘Lemonade’ Lyrics Hinted at Rocky Relationship

 Daddy-daughter love! Beyoncé reunited with her dad, Mathew Knowles, backstage at her Formation World Tour performance in her hometown of Houston, Texas, on May 7.

Tina Knowles later shared the pic of her ex-husband and daughter, both flashing huge smiles, on Wednesday, May 18. “Houston Concert proud dad!!!!!” she wrote. The “Hold Up” singer, 34, hugs her dad while she’s still clad in a sparkly crystal bodysuit from her concert.

Tina also posted a photo from earlier in the month of Mathew with his younger daughter, Solange Knowles, and the singer’s 11-year-old son, Julez: “Proud daddy and grandpa Houston,” she wrote on Thursday.

After Beyoncé debuted her new visual album, Lemonade, on April 23, fans speculated that the lyrics about infidelity could refer to her and her husband, Jay Z. Others thought it may refer to her parents, who divorced in 2011 after reports swirled that Mathew may have cheated. That same year, the Grammy-winning artist severed business ties with her dad, who had managed her since the start of her career in the ‘90s with Destiny’s Child.

Several lyrics on Lemonade seem to specifically refer to her father. On the track “Daddy Lessons” she sings, "When trouble comes to town / And men like me come around / Oh, my daddy said shoot."

In the hour-long HBO special, Beyoncé also reads a few lines of poetry by Warsan Shire: "Did he convince you that he was God? … Are you a slave to the back of his hand? Am I talking about your husband or your father?” she says. “You remind me of my father, a magician / Able to exist in two places at once / In the tradition of men in my blood, you come home at 3 a.m. and lie to me.”

Last month, Mathew declined to say whether any part of the album was inspired by his actions or if it was simply art. “People want to make it about her. Maybe she dug deep and made it about something we all could relate to.” he previously told Us Weekly. “Everybody wants to say different things. I can’t get in her head and say she was airing out her [personal life.].”

However, Mathew claims the line about the “back of his hand” definitely doesn’t refer to his relationship with the superstar. “I can say I have never in my life hit my daughter,” he said on the SiriusXM show Make It Plain.
