SWISS authorities have conducted another series of pre-dawn raids as part of an investigation into alleged FIFA corruption, according to reports.
Police conducted pre-dawn raids on the luxury hotel this morning |
Police are believed to have entered the hotel, the Baur au Lac, Switzerland, at 6am.
A hotel manager told visitors in the lobby they had to leave the property because of "an extreme situation."
These latest arrests come as FIFA's executive committee was convening in Zurich to discuss further reforms to the organization.
Earlier
this year, U.S. federal prosecutors ordered the arrest of a number of
high ranking FIFA officials on charges of corruption. The scandal
ultimately forced FIFA's longstanding president Sepp Blatter, 79, to
resign.
In October, Mr Blatter, along with Uefa president Michel
Platini, was banned by FIFA's ethics committee for a period of 90 days,
after Swiss prosecutors opened criminal proceedings against him, on
suspicion of mismanagement and misappropriation. Blatter denies any
wrondoing.

Over the years, FIFA has been marred by a number of corruption
scandals. Critics say bribery and kick-back schemes have been rampant
within the organization for decades, but highly sophisticated networks
based on cronyism and patronage made it virtually impossible to catch
the culprits.
In spite of today's arrests, the FIFA Executive
Committee said on the organization's website that the presidential
election will go ahead as scheduled on 26 February 2016.
