This fox is a friend first. Former Los Angeles Lakers player Rick Fox told Us Weekly on Monday, Oct. 26, that he reached out to Khloe Kardashian, whom he briefly dated, after fellow NBA star Lamar Odom was hospitalized earlier this month.
"I sent a text offering any help I can give," Fox, 46, told Us at the Paley Center for Media's Hollywood Tribute to African-American Achievements in Television in Beverly Hills. "Anything needed, I am here for Lamar, definitely. I hope he is making progress."
As reported by Us Weekly
on Monday, Odom has many medical hurdles to overcome as his journey
toward recovery continues. A source close to the situation told Us that Odom is "definitely" in need of a kidney transplant after it was reported this weekend that he's on dialysis.
"He's doing a tiny bit better," the insider told Us.
"But he has a very long road back to full recovery — if that." The same
source and another insider added that doctors are still unclear about
the extent of damage done to Odom's body.
Kardashian rushed to be by his side on Oct. 13, after he was found
unconscious in a brothel. In his stead, the reality star has made
difficult medical decisions. Her lawyer Laura Wasser subsequently went before a judge last week, and requested the couple's signed divorce documents be dismissed.
Kardashian first filed for divorce in December 2013 after four years
of marriage, and moved on to other prospects -- including Fox. The
handsome sportscaster, who was famously married to Vanessa Williams from 1999 to 2005, has known Kardashian for a while, and they even went on a few dates this past spring. (He previously dated actress Eliza Dushku for five years until 2014.)
Fox, however, told Us that the two are now maintaining a friendship. "It's hard to be celebrities in L.A.," he told Us
at the event. "And have any kind of supporting friendship and not have
it [be] more than that. We are just friends doing this town. How do you
do this town? It's hard to do this town!"
