JURGEN KLOPP is set to be confirmed as Liverpool’s new manager tonight after agreeing a deal to take over at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp will take over from Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool |
Klopp is due to arrive at John Lennon International Airport in the next two hours after leaving Dortmund on a private jet.
The former Borussia Dortmund coach will then be taken to a city centre hotel where he will complete the formalities by officially signing a three-year deal worth around £7m-a-year.
Liverpool have called a press conference to take place at Anfield on Friday morning when a “major club announcement” will be made.
Klopp left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season |
Klopp, 48, has been Liverpool’s first choice to succeed Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked last Sunday following the 1-1 Merseyside derby stalemate with Everton.
He has already started reshaping the club’s backroom staff with Sean O’Driscoll and Gary McAllister told they will no longer have coaching roles at Liverpool as part of the shake-up.
Assistant manager O'Driscoll is set to leave the club, while McAllister has been offered another role at Anfield that will not be on the coaching side. If he chooses not to accept, then he will depart as well.
However, first team development coach Pepijn Lijnders will remain at Anfield under the incoming regime. McAllister and Lijnders took training at Melwood yesterday.
Rodgers appointed O’Driscoll and McAllister in the summer after dispensing with Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh.
Klopp is bringing his own assistants in Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz who were part of his set up at Borussia Dortmund.
Driscoll and Davies were appointed by Rodgers shortly after he arrived at Liverpool in 2012 and were key members of his backroom staff.
