Esteysi Sanchez Izazaga, 29, also known as Stacy
Sanchez, had been out boozing at several bars in Oceanside, California, until
the early morning hours on Monday when she got into her Pontiac sedan and
started driving home, The Washington
Post reported.
When Sanchez reached Mission Avenue, she
accelerated and barreled into the victim, a neighborhoo transient who was
either walking to or from a local soup kitchen, KGTV reported.
It
was unclear if the victim was in the street or on the footpath at the time of
the collision.
The
impact tore off one of the man’s legs, which catapulted through a back window,
landing on the boot of the vehicle.
The
rest of the man’s body flipped onto the windscreen, shattering the glass and
leaving him “impaled into the vehicle” with the top his head lying on the
passenger seat.
Sanchez
kept driving with the corpse lodged in her windshield, according to reports.
She
even drove up onto the footpath and crashed through some landscaping before she
stopped in a cul-de-sac, jumped out and alerted someone in a nearby home.
Sanchez
then allegedly went home and told her husband, who called the Oceanside Police
Department.
Edwin Esparza claimed to have witnessed the crash
while changing the oil in his car.
“There’s no words to really describe it. I mean,
just seeing that up close and personal, it’s kind of traumatizing in a way,”
Esparza told NBC San Diego.
Investigators arrested Sanchez after she
confessed to driving while intoxicated. Sanchez was charged with felony DUI and
vehicular manslaughter. The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced
dead at the scene.
