DONALD Trump has called on Americans to boycott Apple until the technology giant complies with a court order to unlock a terrorist's phone.

The encrypted iPhone was used by Syed Farook, who along with his wife killed 14 people in California in December.

Earlier this week a US judge ordered Apple to help investigators break into the device – a demand rejected by Apple chief executive Tim Cook.
Now Mr Trump, the outspoken businessman and Presidential candidate, has backed a boycott of the Cupertino firm.

Speaking in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, the Republican hopeful said: "Boycott Apple until such time as they give that information.
"It just occurred to me."
He added that Cook, who believes complying with the order would be "dangerous", wants to prove "how liberal he is".

But a member of Trump's campaign team posted a social media update from an iPhone while the politician was giving the speech.
The 69-year-old later clarified the situation by telling his six million Twitter followers: "I use both iPhone [and] Samsung.
"If Apple doesn't give info to authorities on the terrorists I'll only be using Samsung until they give info."

It was not Trump's first attack on the technology company, who last week won the crucial New Hampshire primary.
In January Trump hit out at Apple for not producing enough of its products – including iPhones and iPad – in the US.
Speaking in Virgina, he said: "We're gonna get Apple to start building their damn computers and things in this country, instead of in other countries."
