After returning to the
squad for the trip to Las Palmas, Keylor Navas has convinced Zinedine Zidane that he has recovered from his
double injury setback and is ready to take his place in the Real Madrid goal
for the Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, however, the
Frenchman is still undecided as to whether a rotation in goal is required.
Although a September comeback was ultimately
beyond the Costa Rican stopper, he had made it known quite clearly in training
on Friday that he was raring to go, hence why Zidane included him in the trip
to the Canary Islands.
The issue now is when exactly the coach feels
the time is right to bring Navas back into the starting XI rather than keeping
him in reserve.
Logic suggests that he should be kept waiting a
little longer because of the strong performances of Kiko Casilla, but the
former Levante man has not played for four months and is longing for competitive
action.
Zidane himself opened the door to the debate by
stating in the pre-match against Las Palmas that he would not rule out a
rotation in goal.
He didn't say when the changes would start, but
made it clear he was confident in both custodians.
Now it's time for the coach to analyse the
situation.
On the one hand, he has the experience of Navas
but who has been 120 days without competition, and on the other, the confidence
he has in Casilla, but who doesn't have the experience and may crumble under
the pressure of one of the most vociferous crowds in Europe.
