BELGIAN authorities are bracing themselves for an imminent terror attack after raising the country's threat level to its second highest level.

Security has been ramped up in recent days following the Paris terror attacks
Officials said in a statement that “the threat is possible and probable" after jihadists killed 129 people and left 99 critically injured in co-ordinated attacks across Paris.

Several of the attackers were from Belgium and one of the accused terrorists, Saleh Abdeslam, remains at large after escaping the French police.
Saleh, 26, reportedly helped with logistics and rented a Belgian-registered VW Polo that was used in the attack at the Bataclan theatre which left 89 people dead.
Level three is just one short of its highest level and is equivalent to “serious”.

The army can be deployed to support the police but authorities stressed they are not yet being deployed.
It comes after Belgium’s friendly match against Spain tomorrow in Brussels was cancelled due to the imminent threat.
A statement on the Belgian Football Association website said it was contacted by the government who recommended not to go ahead with the match.
