Chinese president's wife's make-up mishap as husband also fails to impress at banquet

IT WAS a tough day for China's most powerful couple when the first lady suffered a make-up blunder and the president failed to wow the audience with his speech.

Madame Peng Liyuan beamed from ear to ear as she made her step into the spotlight at last night's glittering event.

But while she may have looked stunning in her ball gown, her face was a little less perfected, with patches of white powder across her forehead and cheeks.
It is suggested the problem was loose silica powder, which reacts badly to the cameras flash and has seen many a-listers fall victim, including Angelina Jolie.

Matters got worse for the couple when Xi Jingping's speech struggled to keep the guests, including Prince Andrew, entertained.
Alongside the Duke of York, the Lady Mayoress was also appeared to be struggling to keep her concentration.
he huge banquet came after David Cameron had to defend a £30billion trade boost from China over concerns regarding the country's human rights record. 
The Prime Minister said: "The more we trade together, the more we have a stake in each other's success and the more we understand each other, the more we can work together to confront problems that face our world today."
Concerns have also been raised about cheap Chinese steel imports affecting Britain's manufacturing performance.

But Mr Cameron said: "Actually, investment we are talking about today - we are going to build a nuclear power station in Britain that is going to have British steel."
