Shay Mitchell Reveals Why She Cut Her Long Waves: ‘Sometimes I Want to Shave All My Hair Off’

Time for a change! Shay Mitchell is known in part for her long, voluminous, dark, wavy tresses, which is why it was a shock to see that the Pretty Little Liars star, 29, had chopped major inches off her strands on Monday, August 8.        

Mitchell, whose Blake Lively–level strands formerly reached her rib cage, debuted a collarbone-length lob hairstyle while attending a charity event for the Wildlife Waystation hosted by Biore.

The reason behind the big change? “[A lob] is perfect for the heat. It’s not so heavy and long,” the Biore brand ambassador told Us Weekly at the event. “Sometimes I just want to shave all my hair off!”

Later that day, the Canadian native explained the makeover further via Instagram. “I like to start each week with a fresh perspective...so we decided to do a little chop chop and go hang with the wildlife this morning,” she captioned a shot of her new style, snipped by celeb hairstylist Chris Appleton. “Special thanks to @chrisappleton1 for my Monday 'do.”

Inspiration for her cut may have come from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who currently sports her own shoulder-grazing style. “I think Rosie Huntington has great hair,” Mitchell explained to Us before revealing two more of her hair icons. “I like the fact that Rihanna switches her hair up all the time. Ciara’s color, that blonde — I love it.”

While chopping this kind of length is a major switch-up for the Mother’s Day actress, she hinted at even more changes to come. “Maybe [I’ll go] auburn [in autumn],” she teased to Us. “I love fall. It’s my favorite season.”
