On Sunday August 14
Frank Lampard became the latest player to join the 300 career goals club as he
found the net for New York City and the Englishman joins an illustrious group
that houses some of the sport's household names.
The Portuguese forward was built to score goals and has done so at every level starting at Sporting Lisbon right through to his monumental Euro 2016 triumph. His time in Lisbon, Manchester and Madrid has seen him score 548 career goals but it is his spell in the Spanish capital that has been the most impressive as he has registered an incredible 364 goals in just 348 matches.
Sporting Lisbon (5 goals)
Manchester United (118 goals)
Real Madrid (364 goals)
Portugal (61 goals)
Graduating from the famed La
Masia academy was Messi's first step towards greatness as he has since gone on
to break almost every Barcelona record imaginable. The diminutive star has
scored 457 goals for the club over the course of his career and has been
influential for the Argentine national team where he has overtaken Gabriel
Batistuta as the nation's leading scorer with 55.
Highest goal tally in LaLiga (50 goals)
Most goals in an entire season in all
competitions (82 goals)
Most goals in a calendar year (91 goals)
The Swedish hero has scored in
every league he has played in with his career in England having got off to a
blistering start already. Often dismissed as arrogant the former Barcelona
forward has carried almost every team he has played in and his 392 career goals
are testament to that.
Keane has become the Republic
of Ireland's most iconic footballing figure courtesy of his goalscoring
exploits and has also excelled at club level in a career that has spanned almost
two decades. He has scored a mammoth 318 goals in domestic football in addition
to 67 for his national side.
After hugely successful spells
in his home country with Los Cules, Valencia and Atletico Madrid, Villa
continues to score goals with Major League Soccer side New York City. He is La
Roja's top scorer with 59 and is currently leading the MLS scoring charts with
15 in 24 matches.
Widely considered as one of
Real Madrid's biggest mistakes, Eto'o went onto enjoy a phenomenal career at
the Camp Nou after it was decided by those in charge of Los Blancos that he
wasn't good enough for the club. He has scored 380 career goals and is still
going strong following a 20 goal haul in Turkey last season.
Last season the Uruguayan
truly came into his own as he contributed 59 goals and 25 assists all from a
centre-forward's position. He earned the second golden boot of his career and
at 29-years-old is at the very peak of his powers.
Rooney is England's most
decorated international goalscorer and his domestic record with Manchester
United is equally as impressive with the club captain just four goals away from
beating Sir Bobby Charlton's long-standing benchmark.
One of the few remaining 'one
club men' in the game, Totti debuted in Roma in 1992 and has been scoring goals
for the club ever since. Now 39-years-old he is approaching the end of his
career and has racked up more than 700 matches in Italy scoring 313 goals for
club and country.
Now the newest member of the
club, Lampard has settled to life in America after a wonderfully successful
career in the Premier League with Chelsea. He was renowned as the archetypal
goalscoring midfielder feeding off the excellent hold-up play of Didier Drogba
and is still scoring today with nine goals in his last 10 MLS appearances.
