Zurlon Tipton is dead at just 26 years old after a tragic accident on June 28. The former pro football player accidentally shot himself in the stomach, and later succumbed to his injuries.

The 26-year-old was reaching into a bag that held two guns and shot himself in the stomach by accident, according to the Roseville Police Deputy Chief. It is still unclear why Zurlon was carrying the firearms, as well as who they belong to.

After accidentally pulling the trigger, Zurlon was alert and talking during his transport to the hospital, but eventually died during his treatment at St. John. No other injuries or damages have been reported in this tragic incident. An autopsy on Zurlon is expected to be completed on June 29.

“Our thoughts are with the Tipton family during this difficult time. #RIPZurlon,” the official Colts’ Twitter account tweeted after hearing the news on June 28. Several of Zurlon’s former teammates also took to social media to remember the running back, who played on the team from 2014-2015.

Zurlon played football for Central Michigan University and was signed by the Colts in the 2014 NFL Draft. He was waived and re-signed several times throughout his short professional career, but eventually, the team let him go for good in Dec. 2015.

On Christmas Day 2015, Zurlon was arrested for firing a gun outside his girlfriend’s Indianapolis home. He was charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, although it’s been reported that the prosecutor’s office never pursued the charges against him.
