Champions League draw Semifinal clashes decided at Nyon |
The Champions League draw for the semi finals took place in Nyon this morning and Real Madrid were paired with Manchester City.
That meant Barcelona's conquerors Atletico Madrid play Bayern Munich for the right to claim a place in the final.
It leaves the possibility of a repeat of the 2014 final open.
On that occasion, Los Blancos eventually overturned a dogged Atleti side thanks to Sergio Ramos' last-gasp equaliser.
Both Spanish sides will fancy their chances of qualification again
and indeed, in 12 European ties this season involving teams from Spain
against opposition from other countries, it's the Spaniards that have
progressed on all 12 occasions.
Barcelona in the Champions League and Athletic Club in the Europa
League were both eliminated by teams from La Liga in Atleti and Sevilla.
Manchester City and Bayern Munich won't make life easy for either
team however, and should both progress to the final, it would present a
tantalising prospect of seeing Pep Guardiola's present and future
employers face off for European football's top prize.
