Real Madrid Talks on a two-year extension have started |
Cristiano Ronaldo has begun talks with Real Madrid to extend his current contract at the club by two years until 2020.
Antonio Sanz reporte in 'El Confidential' that negotiations began
over a month ago, aimed at initialising an extension to Ronaldo's
current contract that ends in 2018.
Real are convinced that the Portuguese forward deserves to stay beyond the end of the 2017/18 season.
He signed his last extension in 2013 with a net wage of 21 million
for five seasons, agreeing the deal in June that year but it remained
unconfirmed until September.
At the beginning of the season, Ronaldo was not at his best under
Rafael Benitez and has since regained his 'superstar' status under the
leadership of Zinedine Zidane.
Ronaldo's 47 goals in 44 games has clearly blown away the critics and left the Madridista faithful in awe once again.
Although he is 31 years old the club believe Ronaldo's performances
are not suffering as a result, thanks to his professionalism and the
mid-season training camp under Zidane.
Real's top goalscorer has played almost every minute of the season, both in La Liga and the Champions League.
Ronaldo enchanted
In the last months of 2015, Los Blancos and Ronaldo didn't close the
door outright to a possible exit until the end of the year. The
situation, however, has changed drastically and it hasn't been due to
Real's performances, it's been down to the Portuguese forward himself.
Ronaldo is very happy at the club, in the city of Madrid, and most
importantly, in the team after Zidane's arrival. He didn't fit well
under Carlo Ancelotti, nor Benitez, but he's back to his best under
Zizou.
Neymar still in the air
Real still won't rule out the hypothetical arrival of Barcelona's
Neymar, who is yet to renew his contract with the Catalan club.
MARCA has already reported that if the possibility of signing Neymar
was put on the table at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Florentino Perez
would go for it and Ronaldo's renewal wouldn't affect a potential deal.
Paris Saint-Germain remain interested
Ronaldo's former club, Manchester United, and especially PSG have always been lurking to offer a possible way out of Madrid.
The Parisian club has been interested and remained in the race for
the 31 year-old's signature to the extent that chairman Nasser
Al-Khelaifi has said to Perez that he has between 100 and 120 million
euros to acquire the forward.
All these scenarios seem far-fetched dreams. The future of Ronaldo appears to be white.
