Zidane and Simeone, parallel lives

Real MadridThe first time they cross paths as managers
On one side, Zinedine Zidane. On the other, Diego Pablo Simeone. Much more than three points at stake. A derby. A duel of the utmost rivalry. An encounter between second and third in La Liga, the 2013/14 Champions League finalists.

On paper, the two men in the dugouts represent opposing styles. They did as players: the Frenchman oozed class and talent, whereas the Argentine was the perfect example of rage, zeal and commitment.
As coaches, with Zidane in the early stages of his career, it looks like their roles are comparable. He opts for an attacking 4-3-3 with his side intent on dominating possession. Simeone, on the other hand, has created a genuinely competitive machine. It seems that there are a lot of differences, but there are more things that the pair have in common.
The players only defended the colours of Real and Atlético for five years as players, but this was long enough for them to leave deep marks on their clubs. Zidane arrived at 29 years of age, but everyone fell in love with his football and he will always be remembered for his goal in the final of the 9th European Cup.
Simeone played for the 'Rojiblancos' in two separate spells and in the first he was a key player when Atlético won their historic double. His goal against Albacete was decisive in winning the team's penultimate league title.
