Senator representing Kaduna central senatorial district in the upper
house of legislature, Shehu Sani, Senate on Friday said that his
suspension by the Kaduna Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
was in contradiction to the provisions of the constitution of the party.
Sani, who was a guest on politics programme, Focus Nigeria on
Africa’s Independent Television (AIT), revealed that the conflict
between him and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-rufai was as a result of
his ‘nit-pickings’ on him (El-Rufai) and that he never received any
letter of suspension.
He said: “I was invited on air and suspended on air. And then the
whole thing became a public event. Nobody has served me with any letter
of being suspended. The National Secretariat of the party in Abuja sent a
delegate to come and address issue and he made it very clear that the
process laid by the party to suspend a member was not properly followed.

“Now, an officer in the State was sent to start insulting the
National officers of the party. You can see what happened between the
National Secretariat and the State Secretariat, who’s to be blamed?
Nobody other than the Governor (El-Rufai) because they cannot do
anything without him.”
He stated further: “I believe the entire public has been awash with
the fact that a purported suspension was given to me for the very fact
that I’m critical of the governor of my state (El-Rufai)”.
The suspended senator lamented that the Kaduna APC stopped him from
expressing his opinions but explained that the National Secretariat of
the party had already begun mediating in the matter.
“The whole thing now bothers on the very fact that I give my views
out as the whole government is going on. They said I shouldn’t speak,
but from my understanding, a political party is not a cult organization
where you can’t express your opinion. I believe what is unjust is
unjust, what is wrong is wrong.
“National Secretariat is making an effort now to address the problem
in the APC crisis in Kaduna. So, believe I shouldn’t disrupt the
process”, Sani said.
