Breaking: Kanu To Remain In Kuje Prison As Court Denies Bail

A Federal High sitting in Abuja on Friday denied bail to the Director of Radio Biafra and leader of the Indegenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

He (Kanu) alongside two other co-accused – David Nwawusi, Benjamin Madubugwu were being prosecuted on six counts of treasonable felony and unlawful possession of firearms preferred against them by the Federal Government.

According to the Justice John Tsoho who presided over the ruling, they were not entitled to bail as they failed to show that they would not continue to commit the alleged crime for which they were being prosecuted for.
The Judge said that that Kanu, David, and Benjamin were adamant that the agitation for Republic of Biafra was within their right. The judge ordered that the accused persons should remain in Kuje prison throughout their trial.

He however adjourned till February 9, 10, 11 and 12 for trial.
Before now, Kanu had wrote the Court that the lawyer who served as his lead counsel in previous sittings, M. U. Udechukwu, step down for Chucks Muoma.
According to Kanu, the person who represented him in previous sittings was different from the person he had instructed.

When lawyers announced their appearances, Mr. Udechukwu told the court that he had been informed of the letter, saying he would immediately stand down for Mr. Muoma to continue the case.
In his reaction, Mr. Udechukwu insisted on handing over the case, because the letter said he had impersonated the lead counsel at previous hearings.
Mr. Udechukwu said impersonation, a serious offence, could affect his legal profession of almost 20 years. He therefore prayed the court to record his apology for the said offence, and that the court should note that he was withdrawing from the case.
